A LOW-COST, POCKET-SIZED
THROUGH-THE-DOOR MOTION DETECTOR

This new, patent-pending device detects gross movement on the other side of numerous opaque barriers such as light brick, drywall, wooden doors, windows with shutters or curtains, etc. It was designed to detect a person walking to/from the operator at a maximum distance of about 25ft from the other side of a solid wood door.

The small amount of movements that one makes while working at a desk will likely go undetected.
Motion detection can NOT be made through large metal barriers.

The raw signal coming from an FCC-compliant microwave motion sensor
has been conditioned so that it can be conveniently displayed on an LCD needle meter.

The motion being detected is at
5/8 the strongest calibrated signal

The detected motion signal is
stronger than calibration

Example of use: When approaching a target location (such as a closed, visually opaque room) an operator turns the device on, tests to make sure it is ready and detecting, and places it against the outside of the room's [wood] door or wall. The device provides an immediate visual indication of the amount of gross motion occurring inside the target room, allowing the operator to better assess the situation with real-time information regarding the presence of a person moving inside the room. A demo video of the device in use is available at www.WaveSense.ws

The through-the-wall motion detector in use

Once turned on the sensor requires 10-15 seconds to warm up. One should first test to make sure it is ready by waving their hand in front of the device, thus verifying detected motion. When ready, the operator places it against a room's external wall or door, and can assess motion inside the room from the level indicated on the LCD needle meter.

If the operator is with other personnel, they should remain as still as possible behind the operator who can thus shield the device from incidental motion. Also, even small amounts of operator motion can cause the needle to move within its lowest segment.

The dimensions of the device are about 6½ x 3½ x 1½ inches. It weighs less than 11 oz. (including 9V battery).
